Abstract

This paper concerns the results of our attempt to quantitatively capture the actual business conditions and future business outlook of lumber retailers in the Tokyo Region. We formulated 17 questions, including the numbers of actual employees and customers and types of side businesses, if any, to examine lumber retailers' current business conditions and future business outlook. According to our survey, a certain number of business owners closed their lumber retail business; some others don't wish to seek any new customers; some have changed their trade; there are some lumber retailers who intend to continue to expand or transform their businesses.
