Abstract

3-Acetoxy-2,2′-bi-1H-indol which is derived from indigo was found to be a novel and potent inhibitor of ATP binding (IC50=0.04mM) to DnaA protein, a key protein in the initiation of chromosomal DNA replication in Escherichia coli. Competitive experiments indicated the inhibition to be non-competitive with ATP.
