Abstract

To reduce the light leakage of LCDs, the birefringence of pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) was investigated. We proposed a novel birefringence measurement method for measuring the birefringence of PSAs. By this method, the birefringence was evaluated quantitatively. Consequently, we designed a zerobirefringence PSA which does not exhibit birefringence at any orientation. This zero-birefringence PSA successfully reduced the light leakage after the accelerated aging test. We clarified the correlation between the birefringence of PSAs and the light leakage.
