Abstract
A growth inhibitor which might be involved in light-induced growth inhibition of bean hypocotyl was isolated from light-grown dwarf bean shoots (Phaseolus vulgaris cv Morocco) and its structure was determined by spectral data as R-(-)-3-hydroxy-β-ionone. It inhibited the growth of hypocotyls of lettuce seedlings and hypocotyl segments of dwarf bean seedlings at concentrations greater than 0.03 μM, and its inhibitory activity was higher than ABA.
