Abstract

The Ministry of Welfare of Japan has proposed a standardized nomenclature of diseases to facilitate electronic clinical recording and the Medicare system. We designed a clinical support system for eye-care practice based on this nomenclature. Some 20 diseases were found lacking in this system. There was an urgent need to improve the system regarding the location-related nomenclature of diseases and to facilitate ready access in daily practice. We advocate a more complete nomenclature of eye diseases.
