Abstract

D-Mannitol has been converted by five sequential reactions (benzyldenation, trifluoromethanesulphonation, hydrazinolysis, hydrogenolysis, and deacetalisation) into (2S,5S)-bishydroxymethyl-(3R,4R)- bishydroxypyrrolidine.
