Abstract

It comes to be dicussed that studies of social stratification and social mobility may be in an impasse. Technical development of quantitative analysis and preoccupation with variable-oriented strategy have caused this impasse that appears in individualization of various hypotheses and inconsistency of outcomes of data analyses. Therefore, empirical confirmation of hypotheses and deductive corroboration of theoretical ideas are obstructed. As the means to escape from the impasse, conjunction of strategies such as variable-oriented, interpretative and mathematical strategies is suggested and examined.
