Analysis of various whispering gallery modes in an octagonal silica toroidal microcavity

    Abstract

    We studied a whispering-gallery-mode octagonal silica toroidal microcavity and found two different modes, one of which exhibits a high Q of 8.8×106. We also demonstrated it experimentally and obtained a Q of 2.2×104.
