Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop a function for gripping assessment of aesthetic shape without real subjects and physical mockups. The assessment for stable gripping was performed on the basis of the amount of moment of force working in the hand. In the previous work, we developed aesthetic shape generation system which able to generate various aesthetic shapes based on the designer aesthetic intention. However, products with the aesthetic shape designs should also enable user to achieve stable gripping. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose a function of evaluating "stable gripping" for aesthetic design. The gripping assessment function estimates the possible gripping position on the generated aesthetic model, and then an estimation of "stable gripping" was performed by computing the amount of moment of force working in the hand.
