N2 - The characteristics of a tuned magnetic fluid damper (TMFD) are examined experimentally. Using a tuned mass damper analogy, the concept of effective and non-effective masses is introduced and the qualitative relation among fluid mass ratio, the natural frequency and magnetic field intensity are demonstrated. Effective damping is realized by using a suitable application of magnetic fields based on a frequency response diagram.
