Charge-transfer complexes of 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine with 2,4-,3,4-and 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid

Abstract

A study was conducted to investigate charge-transfer complexes of 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine with 2,4-,3,4-and 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid. It was found that the ions were connected by an N-H?O hydrogen bond in the crystal structures of 4-(dimethylamino)-pyridinium 2,4-dinitrobenzoate, 4-(dimethylamino)pyridinium 3,4-dinitrobenzoate, and 4-(dimethylamino)-pyridinium 3,5-dinitrobenzoate. Equimolecular mixtures of 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine and 2,4-, 3,4- or 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid were recrystallized from acetone to prepare 4-(dimethylamino)-pyridinium 2,4-dinitrobenzoate, 4-(dimethylamino)pyridinium 3,4-dinitrobenzoate, and 4-(dimethylamino)-pyridinium 3,5-dinitrobenzoate.
