Abstract
A laser angioplasty system using a combination of a CO laser and a coronary angioscope is described. A thin laser angioscope balloon catheter 5F-6F in diameter was developed. A fiber cable for CO laser delivery was also developed. An animal experiment in vivo shows the efficacy of the angioscope visualization during the laser angioplasty. The independent manipulation of the laser fiber cable and the laser angioscope catheter is an important design point for establishing precisely controlled laser irradiation by displaying the angioscope view. The laser angioscope catheter is too short for the percutaneous coronary laser angioplasty procedure, because it was made specially for the animal experiment. However, it is sufficient for the open surgery procedure.
