Crystal growth of 4-Br-4'-methoxychalcone and its characterization

Abstract

A single crystal of the organic nonlinear optical material, 4-Br-4'-methoxychalcone, was grown by solution growth method. The resulting slanted rhomboid crystal, having a bulk size of 4x10x10 mm3, was transparent and exhibited good optical quality. The crystal was characterized by X-ray diffraction and optical methods. It was shown to have a point group m symmetric structure and can be expected of it for the various applications in nonlinear optics.
