Data on high-performance thin-layer chromatography of analgesic and antipyretic drugs

Abstract

The data on high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) for the authentic analgesic and antipyretic drugs were presented. The analytical conditions of pranoprofen, loxoprofen sodium, ketoprofen, naproxen, fenoprofen calcium, flurbiprofen, alminoprofen, ibuprofen, mefenamic acid, diclofenac sodium, aluminum flufenamate, tolfenamic acid, acemetacin, indomethacin, aspirin and phenylbutazone by HPTLC system were established as follows: plates, silica gel 60 F254 HPTLC plates; solvent system, n-butyl ether/n-hexane/acetic acid (20:4:1); and detection, spraying the plates with 0.1 % dichlorophenolindophenol ethanol reagent followed by heating in oven at 100°C for 10 min. Pale red or pale orange color was given for these drugs except for phenylbutazone. The detection limits were 0.5-5 μ g. Phenylbutazone could be detected with the Liebermann reagent (detection limit: 1 μ g). Sulpyrine, acetaminophen and phenacetin showed satisfactory separation by HPTLC using chloroform/ methanol/acetic acid (45:5:1) as solvent system. Sulpyrine was detected by the ninhydrin reagent (detection limit: 0.5 μ g). Acetaminophen and phenacetin were detected with the Liebermann reagent (detection limit: 0.5 μ g).
