Demonstration of short-range terahertz radar using high-gain leaky-wave antenna

Abstract

We demonstrate a short-range terahertz radar using a leaky-wave antenna (LWA). The prototyped antenna can form a directional beam with a 3dB width of 4° steerable over 38° across the broadside by sweeping the frequency from 235 GHz to 325 GHz. With the broadband beam steering capability, we can locate a small target placed in front of the LWA by analyzing the reflection spectrum obtainable from a vector network analyzer. The approach will pave a way for integrated terahertz radar.
