Design and implementation of reconfigurable sensing system for networked robots

Abstract

A reconfigurable sensing system was developed for networked robots that communicate with sensor nodes distributed in the environment through a network. The reconfigurable sensing system is constructed as a coprocessor that computes most parts of the sensor data processing. The system uses reconfigurable hardware, CPLDs at the implementation level, and allows high-speed and flexible processing adaptability to changes of situations. The system can also decide the timing of reconfiguration based on the information from distributed sensors, acquired by the communication mechanism implemented on the networked robot.
