Abstract
Diagnostic thoracoscopy for pleural tumor biopsy is safe and reliable method, because it is less invasive and larger tissue can be excised under video-monitor system. Surgical resection of localized mesothelioma, particularly for peduncular tumor, is suitable candidate for thoracoscopic resection. We have resected localized mesothelioma by thoracoscopic surgery in two patients successfully and they have no recurrences during 10 and 17 months follow-up. However, tumor recurrence can be occurred even in histologically benign localized mesothelioma. Careful handling of the tumor and postoperative proper follow-up should be done for the patients. Meanwhile, thoracoscopic surgery of diffuse mesothelioma still remained palliative treatment.
