Abstract

In this paper we propose a daynamic bandwith allocatior (DBA) algorithm for Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) systems. In the proposal, the optical line termiral (OLT) uses a proportioral-irtegral-deriatie (PID) cortroller to update the request thereshold for each optical network unit (ONU). Each ONU uses the request thershold informed by the OLT to calculate the transmission request data lenth. This method allwos the allocating bandwidth to converge more quickly on the target bandwdith than the convetion al methode while keeping the bandwidth utilizatior efficiency high. Simulatiors reveal the performance of the proposed metlod. We also clarify the relationship between threshold update frequency and conergence performance. The results are useful as a design guideline for the OLTs control clip.
