Abstract

In order to find some fundamental effects and new applications of tapered pneumatic transmission lines, their dynamic characteristics are investigated, which is based on step pressure inputs. Various wave phenomena in a compound system of some tapered tubes, e. g. in the combination of tapered and linear tubes, in a tapered tube with an arbitrary cross-section, are theoretically and experimentally studied. The pressure histories are characterized by some dimensionless parameters, for example, which indicate the tapered effect of a tube, the effect of viscosity of a gas, the effect of capacity of a tank and so on. The period of pressure wave and the attenuation of pressure wave are largely influenced by these parameters.
