A hybrid approach is used to obtain the dynamic response of rigid square foundations embedded in an elastic half-space. The results are presented for excitations in the form of in an elastic half-space. The results are presented for excitations in the form of external forces and moments as well as for the case of plane elastic waves impinging on the foundation from different angles. The results are validated by comparison with results obtained by other methods and for other geometries. In particular, it is found that the response of an embedded square foundation can be approximated by that of a cylindrical foundation with an equivalent circular base and the same embedment depth.
