Enzyme-catalyzed ring-opening polymerization of 1,3-dioxan-2-one to poly(trimethylene carbonate)

Abstract

The preparation of poly(trimethylene carbonate) [P(TMC)] by the enzymatic ring-opening polymerization of the six member, 1,3-dioxan-2-one (TMC) is studied with respect to the reaction conditions and origin of the enzyme. It was found that cyclic carbonate TMC was readily polymerized in the presence of lipase at the corresponding P(TMC). No elimination of carbon dioxide by the enzymatic preparation of TMC was detected.
