Abstract

The combination of a dichlorobis(β-diketonato)zirconium compound 1 and dimethylaluminium chloride was found to be an active catalyst for the oligomerization of ethylene to produce linear C4-C22 α-olefins. The catalytic activity and the product distribution of the resulting oligomers was influenced by the structure of the β-diketonato ligands, which affect the electron density at the zirconium center.
