Functionalization of gel particles by unsymmetrical modification relevant to hydrophilicity and magnetization

Abstract

To prepare particles possessing unsymmetrical properties relevant to amphiphilicity, the hydrophobic polymer layer were deposited onto the hemisphere of gel particle with an L-B apparatus. Obtained unsymmetrical particles could be associated through the hydrophobic interaction, which responded to the environmental polarity. Magnetic unsymmetry was introduced to this unsymmetrical particle by unsymmetrical deposition of magnetic nanoparticles. We investigated responses to the applied magnetic field, such as motions and arrangements of particles, and attempted to control them by the magnetic field and the environmental polarity.
