High-Q sapphire WGM cavities fabricated by crystal growth

    Abstract

    We fabricated sapphire whispering gallery mode cavities using laser-heated pedestal growth. By optimizing the growth condition we fabricated a cavity with a circular cross-section and obtained a Q of 1.6×104.
