Large spin injection into single- and multi-walled carbon nanotubes

Abstract

We have investigated spin-dependent transport through CoFe-contacted single- and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT and MWNT) with the contact separation of 200 - 300 nm. At low temperature, the devices exhibit very high magnetoresistance (MR) ratios, which reach to ∼1200% for the SWNT-based system and ∼150% for the MWNT-based system. In addition, the MR characteristics show coercivity enhancement or exchange bias, depending on the properties of contacts. Another MWNT device widely shows the MR oscillation overlapped on the hysteretic change near 0 T.
