Laser hot balloon catheter for stenotic coronary diseases

Abstract

A hot-balloon catheter using an Ar laser as a heat source is proposed. Circulation of a contrast medium in the balloon makes it possible to attain rapid temperature elevation and temperature uniformity. The silica-fiber power delivery of Ar laser offers flexibility and insulation for the balloon catheter. In vitro and acute in vivo experiments reveal the efficacy of the catheter in the treatment of stenotic coronary diseases.
