LORDS: Location-oriented description service - Design and implementation of location based digital signage system

Abstract

In this research, we aim to develop "LORDS: Location-Oriented Description Service", which can deliver the contents based on the location data, manage the content repository and gather the environmental information. Although most of the ITS service contribute on transit efficiency, those cannot deliver and display the contents without dependency on the device adequately. LORDS enable gathering probe and environmental information, storing such kind of data and delivering it regardless of devices. To realize LORDS, 1) acquiring environmental information and 2) delivering the contents in response to the display are inevitable. Probe vehicle system is applicable for gathering the environmental data in real time and MEXARC (Media Content Expression Architecture) is available for flexible content description. The field experiment in NUS bus field demonstrates the importance of LORDS and realization possibility of the system. Establishment of LORDS can contribute to public transportation transit efficiently as an ITS service.
