Abstract
A poly(p-fluorostyrene) (PFS) based graded-index plastic optical fiber (GI POF) doped with dibenzothiophene showed a attenuation of 160 dB/km at 670 nm, low enough for local area networks, and a glass transition temperature of 90°C, higher than the temperature (85°C) of the environmental exposure specified by International Electrotechnical Commission. The PFS based GI POF had a bandwidth of 5.2 GHz for 50 m, high enough for home networks, and good mechanical strength, which allowed easy handling.
