Abstract
Micro-organisms that assimilate 2-phenylethanol were screened from soil and strains that enantioselectively oxidized 2-phenyl-1-propanol to 2-phenylpropanoic acid were selected. By optimizing the cultural conditions as well as the reaction conditions, various enantiomerically enriched 2-substituted propanoic acids and 2-aryl-1-propanols were obtained.
