Mismatch induced oscillations of space charge dominated beams in a uniform focusing channel

Abstract

A solenoid trap with a beam imaging system was employed to study the mismatch induced oscillations of a space charge dominated beams experimentally. It was observed that a spheroidal Gaussian beam with a density n ∼ 1.5 × 108 cm-3 and a local tune depression η ∼ 0.5 could produce a large halo with an induced mismatch. Associated with the induced mismatch, the oscillations of the beam were also detected.
