Mobile sensor agent to acquire acceleration data for structural health monitoring

Abstract

Deployment of acceleration sensors is necessary for SHM system but traditional wire-based SHM systems require significant time and cost for wiring and sensing management. This is a major obstacle for realization of the SHM system. On the other hand, recently many robots are proposed and some have been already used in living spaces. These robots can be very useful sensor agents in acquiring information relevant to living spaces as such robots can have many sensors with feasible cost. In addition a robot is movable to other living space. Thus using a robot for as a sensor agent is an attractive and promising strategy to make the SHM more feasible. The purpose of this study is to propose sensor agents that can measure accurate acceleration data of a building for SHM systems and to show some preliminary results.
