Near-optimal quantum state discrimination of optical coherent states

Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate a new scheme for the discrimination of binary-encoded optical coherent states. We show that the average error probability of our approach beats the ones obtained by standard receiver schemes for any signal amplitude.
