Noninvasive blood glucose monitoring system

Abstract

A novel noninvasive and quasi-continuous method of transcutaneous blood glucose monitoring system has been developed. The constituents of effuse transcutaneous fluid, suction effusion fluid (SEF) was analyzed, and its glucose concentration during glucose loading in rabbits and patients was monitored. A 75 g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was also carried out with volunteers with impaired glucose tolerance. The subject suffered mild skin damage with slight redness and slight skin irritation without subcutaneous hemorrhage after the suction procedure was applied for about six hours. A small and wearable apparatus based on this prototype system was also developed.
