Open loop anterior chamber intraocular lens implantation with penetrating keratoplasty

Abstract

The authors evaluated the results of penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) and anterior-chamber intraocular lens (IOL) implantation without posterior capsule support in 17 eyes (17 patients). Sixteen of the 17 grafts remained clear and 1 eye developed endothelial decompensation due to postoperative glaucoma. Visual acuity was improved postoperatively in 12 eyes (70.6%). Mean endothelial cell density in the 17 cases was 2,470/mm 2 preoperatively and 2,135/mm 2 postoperatively. These results indicate that implantation of an open-loop anterior-chamber IOL is useful in PKP patients with no posterior capsule support.
