N2 - This paper is devoted to the foundation of decentralized design and implementation of multiple controllers. Motivated from the application to huge-scale systems, a localized-control problem, called retrofit control, is formulated: A local controller is designed for a local part of the huge-scale system such that the entire controlled system is stable independently of any change in the other remaining part. Then, the problem is solved, and all retrofit controllers are parametrized. Finally, design guidelines of the retrofit controller are illustrated.
