Abstract

Overlapping multi-pulse pulse position modulation (OMPPM) is a modulation scheme to achieve a higher throughout than the other conventional modulation schemes. OMPPM is analyzed in noiseless photon counting channel and show to outperform other conventional modulations. The optical channel is often modeled by noiseless photon counting channel, but noise due to background and/or detector dark currents exists in the practical optical channel. However, the performance of OMPPM in noisy photon counting channel has not been clarified. This paper analyzes the cut-off rate performance of OMPPM in noisy photon counting channel.
