Abstract

The C30H20F2O4 compound obtained as a byproduct in the preparation of biindenylidene compounds was discussed. It was found that the central C11-C11i bond was a single bond, which corresponds to no photochromic property of the compound. The photochromism of these crystals seems to be due to the biradical caused by breaking the π-bond at the center of the biindenylidene moiety. The results show that the angle between the C10-C7 and its symmetry related bond vector was 25.8 (1)°, and the dihedral angle between the two fluorophenyl rings was 12.15 (10)°.
