Recognition properties of the nano-ordered structures of bis(mercaptomethyl)terthiophene monolayers on Au (111)

Abstract

Recognition properties of nano-ordered structures, i.e. two-dimensional honeycombs and one-dimensional molecular rows consisting of 5,5′-bis(mercaptomethyl)-2,2′:5′,2′-terthiophene, on gold single crystal surfaces were investigated using scanning tunneling microscopy at room temperature. It was found that nano-ordered structures, in particular two-dimensional honeycombs, can discriminate between n-hexanethiol and triphenylmethanethiol.
