Abstract

A new on-line adaptive algorithm of recursively obtaining the least square estimate on the basis of a gradient method was proposed. This method retains the merit of batch processing in solving the normal equation. Improvement of the tracking characteristic for time-variable parameters is also described. The proposed method has a smoothing or averaging effect, and differs in this respect from the LMS and RLS methods. An adaptive algorithm for adjusting the tap coefficients of a bit detector by directly using the detected bits is proposed and it is shown to converge far more smoothly than the conventional RLS.
