Abstract

A resource management strategy for distributed processing environment is proposed that is based on treating the resources as abstract data. Abstract data consisting of a set of resources is called a category, and each of the elements in a category is either mapped to a concrete resource or is expressed as a structured resource. Using the sets of categories, a user can easily specify his resource requirement in his computation. The implementation of such a resource manager is discussed.
