Abstract
The authors study a new waveform codec which is robust against channel errors and has high data compression efficiency. In this scheme, odd input samples are encoded and transmitted using the conventional PCM scheme, while for even samples the interpolation error is used. The performance of the studied scheme is about 1 (bit/sample) better than that of the conventional PCM scheme. When the channel error rate is 10** minus **3, the new scheme gains about 25 dB of SQNR while the conventional DPCM scheme gains about 12 dB.
