Summary form only given. A general analysis of the effect of using a power-law envelope detector with harmonic output components on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) has been performed. By using multiplication and filtering, the additional zero-frequency components have been obtained from the harmonic output components. A general expression for the improvement factor of SNR has been obtained that is applicable to non-Gaussian noise. It has been found that the output SNR can be improved by using the zero-frequency components.
