Abstract
A detailed procedure for simultaneous determination of ten propionic acid analgesic and antipyretic drugs in human plasma has been developed using medium-bore capillary gas chromatography (GC) with flame ionization detection. The propionic acid drugs in human plasma were extracted with chloroform at pH 3.0, and further purified with a Bond Elut® (silica) column. Distinct peaks of methyl derivatives of ten propionic acid drugs could be detected simultaneously by GC after on-column methylation with phenyltrimethylammonium hydroxide. Calibration curves of the drug derivatives were linear at 5.0-25.0 mg/ml. The detection limits were 0.2-2.0 μg/ml of plasma. The present procedure seems useful as a convenient screening and determination method in forensic chemistry.
