Abstract
The beam characteristics of a five-mirror cavity are analyzed using an ABCD matrix, and compared them with those of a typical four-mirror cavity. The calculation results shows higher differential gains and lower sensitivity of stability in mode locking for the five-mirror cavity than for the four-mirror cavity, which explains why the five-mirror cavity is more favorable for KLM with thermal-sensitive lasers.
