Abstract

We propose a microstrip-based terahertz phase shifter using liquid crystal. A voltage-controlled phase shift can be induced by incorporating liquid crystal into the dielectric substrate of the microstrip line to cause the refractive index change. DC bias lines running in parallel to the microstrip line are designed to introduce minimum RF interference. Experimental results show phase shift up to 250° at 330 GHz with a bias voltage of 10 V.
