Abstract

In order to establish a theoretical method to obtain an optimized head to media interface condition for a high density contact recording micro floppy disk, the fundamentally dynamic characteristics of a 3. 5 inch flexible disk are investigated theoretically and experimentally. Eigenvalues and modes in transverse deflection of a spinning flexible disk induced by static and dynamic concentrated force are first analyzed, taking account of the effect of circumferential initial negative stress. The dynamic deflection characteristics of an actual micro floppy disk due to a point contact head are next analyzed taking the initial deflection and initial stress in the disk into consideration.
