Abstract

A short, efficient, and practical synthesis of (2S,5S)-bishydroxymethyl-(3R,4R)-bishydroxypyrrolidine from D-mannitol involving five sequential reactions (benzylidenation, trifluoromethanesulphonation, hydrazinolysis, hydrogenolysis, and deacetalisation) is described.
