Abstract

Quebrachitol [1 L-(-)-2-0-methyl-chrro-inosito!] was converted into D-and L-galactose derivatives via the common intermediate, the 7-mem-Eered hemiacetal-lactone (9), which was obtained by regioselective Baeyer-Villiger oxidation of the inosose (8).
