Abstract

We fabricate a very short-reach graded-index (GI) core tapered polymer optical waveguide utilizing an imprint method, in which the refractive index profile is accurately controlled. The optical loss of step-index(SI) and GI tapered waveguides are both theoretically and experimentally compared. We also experimentally demonstrate that GI-core exhibits lower loss than SI-core.
