Abstract
Purpose Strong acid electrolysed waler (SAHVv ) is produced b> electro!) sis from lap water SAEW is defined as when Hi pH is less than 2 7 and has been shown to have strong and rapid bactericidal effect against a wide spectrum ot bacteria and viruses IrHhis stud; . we investigated t he sai et \ot topi cal instillation of SAbW Since the side el feels of S Ah" W on living ceils lias been reported to be minimal, we considered its ophthalmic application. flELtoda SAh'W was produced by the principle oi Acitron(pH2 40 ORP -1 lOOmV, residual chloride lu-30ppm) We instilled 30ml ol SAEW to rabbit ( 1 rabbit. 2 eyes) and human e>es in 4) \l'ter5 and 15 minutes, we examined the cornt a] and conjutictival epithehumb) fîuoresceii) staining (tor rahhitand hurmuis) and rose heiigal staining (for humans only ;> Resylt£ in human subjects there was no vital Stauung of the cornea nor injection ot conjunctiva 5 and 15 minutes after the instillation which caused minimal irritation (44). No staining of the cornea nor coi juncu val injection were oli served in the rabbit eyes Conclusions: No major side ef'ects were observed in human and rabbit subjects .-Vlthoughmoredetailedreseaichsliould be performed clinical use ol' SAh'V\ in ophthalmologic infections may be possible inthefututv.
